Miriam Kessler Fulton

July 19, 1930 - February 16, 2026

Miriam Kessler Fulton

Miriam Kessler Fulton passed away peacefully in Savannah, Georgia on February 16, 2026.

Daughter of Perry and Douschka Kessler, Miriam was born in Newberry, South Carolina on July 19, 1930. After moving to Savannah, Georgia as a young woman, she graduated from Savannah High School in 1948 and earned an Associate’s degree from Armstrong Junior College. In 1957, after a two-year courtship, she married her late husband, Thomas (Tom) L. Fulton, Jr. They were married for more than 50 years.

Miriam dedicated herself to the task of being an Air Force wife. She shepherded her family across continents in support of Tom’s Air Force career, from Japan to Florida, California, Okinawa, and Minnesota. After finally returning to Savannah, Miriam worked for the registrar’s office at Armstrong State College and also the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers until she and her husband retired in 1987.

In her golden years, Miriam enjoyed playing bridge, traveling with her old friends “the Knitwits,” and doting on her grandchildren, Emilia, Alex, and Ryan. She was active in her church, St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran, where she was head of the altar guild for many years. She was also a honorary life member of the Windsor Forest Garden Club. Miriam was proud of her German Salzburger heritage, often serving on the board of the Georgia Salzburger Society.

Miriam was predeceased by her husband, Thomas L. Fulton, Jr., her parents Perry and Douschka Kessler, and her sister, Elizabeth Kessler Burton. Miriam is survived by her children David Fulton of Savannah, GA, Steven Fulton (Kathleen) of Colorado Springs, CO, and Rebecca Truluck (Richard) of Rincon, GA, her grandchildren, Emilia Truluck of Rincon, GA (currently posted in Hyderabad, India), Alexander Fulton (Sarah) of Las Vegas, NV, and Ryan Fulton of New York, NY, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, February 21, at 11 am at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Savannah. Visitation will begin at 10 am. There will be a brief reception after the service, with burial at Bonaventure Cemetery at 2 pm.

The family would like to express their thanks for her numerous caregivers, Lisa Yarbrough, Sylvia Allen, Patsy Johnson, Shennel Johnson, and Sandra Johnson for helping her to live her life to the fullest, even in some of her more trying days towards the end.

Remembrances may be sent in memory of Miriam Fulton to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 10 W 31st Street, Savannah, GA, 31401, or Hospice Savannah, 1352 Eisenhower Drive, Savannah, GA 31406.

GUEST BOOK

I have the fondest memories of my first meet with Mrs. Miriam. She rocked my babies at St Paul's Preschool. This was the start of a beautiful friendship. Over the past 20 years she would reach out to see how the girls were doing. A beautiful lady who will forever hold a special place in our hearts.

So very sorry for the loss of your Mom. I remember her as a kind and thoughtful Lady, and I'm sure she will be missed by many. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.

Our mother Lois Parkerson met Miriam early on in school where she (Miriam) immediately introduced herself and asked to be her friend! They remained life long "besties" and are now reunited in heaven with other Knitwits! I will always remember Miriam's positive outlook on life and beautiful smile. Our deepest condolences to the family.

- Patricia J. Perrone, Reston, VA
